Vickery Village: A Relative Newcomer
The second installment of our At Home in North Atlanta Series
It is hard to believe, Cumming’s wildly popular Vickery subdivision is only 15 years old. What makes people flock to this neighborhood? Is it the pedestrian lifestyle? The highly rated schools? Or, possibly the charming movie-set feel conjured by the neighborhood’s layout and architecture?
More than likely, it is a combination of all these things and so much more.
No car necessary
Anchoring this sprawling development of 630 homesites is Vickery Village, a collection of boutiques and eateries surrounding a courtyard known as the Village Green. Throughout the year the green is home to a number of events ranging from yoga sessions, to a weekly farmers market, to movies and concerts. Just beyond the courtyard are offices housing a variety of professional services including doctors, dentists, and salons. There is even a 50,000 square foot YMCA!
It is not all about shopping and dining, though. Vickery offers a wide array of community amenities allowing residents to get out and exercise, enjoy the natural surroundings, or gather with friends and neighbors. Scattered throughout the development are 75 acres of green space, a community fire pit, a lake, pool, tennis courts, walking paths, playgrounds, and sports courts.
It is all about the location
Vickery is located just southwest of downtown Cumming, off Post Road between Highway 9 and Kelly Mill Road. In addition to Vickery Village, residents have easy access to shopping at The Collection and big-box retailers on Bethelview and McFarland Roads. For commute purposes, GA 400 can easily be accessed via either exit 12 or 13.
When it comes to staying active, residents can get out and enjoy walking, running, or biking on the nearby Big Creek Greenway. Or, take advantage of recreation and athletics at Midway Park located just to the north on Post Road.
Get educated
Neighborhood children attend Vickery Elementary and Vickery Middle Schools, both within walking distance, and West Forsyth High. The high school offers a range of academic tracks from advanced placement classes to career and technical programs. Students can pursue their high school diploma while also learning culinary skills, cosmetology, marketing, engineering, film, computer science, or food and nutrition. It also has an assortment of athletic teams and clubs to suit a wide range of abilities and interests.
Charming and unique homes
Vickery was launched by Hedgewood Homes, known for their upscale and energy-efficient homes. Houses in the community have distinctive looks but share commonalities like expansive front porches and alley entrances to detached garages. Beyond single family homes, Vickery also features condos and townhomes. Neighborhood prices begin in the low $400,000s and soar to over $1 million. In addition to resales, John Wieland is building a limited number of new homes.
